Just over a week we broke the story on how the ANCYL website changed hours after its president was expelled from the mother body, the African National Congress (ANC). Changes that happened on the website included the removal of expelled/ suspended league members’ names from the list of its elected leaders which was placed on the website just after the league’s elective conference in Johannesburg in June 2011.
The members whose names were removed are that of the league’s expelled president, Julius Malema, league secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa, and spokesperson Floyd Shibambu (No. 26 on additional members list).
The home page banner which led site visitors to Malema’s opinion articles named “From the desk of the President” has also been restored to the website.
However, the banner (with Malema’s face) that calls for the nationalisation of mines has not been restored to the website and the new banner still features Magdelene Moonsamy as the contact person.
Meanwhile, the league released a statement saying it is “encouraged” by Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale’s reiteration of the call to nationalise the country’s mines.
