National Freedom Party (NFP) national secretary-general Professor Nhlanhla Khubisa said Bongani Shelembe, a businessman and NFP constituency chairperson from Msinga, and youth secretary Zamo Zondi were shot dead while a woman – identified as Thulephi Mbatha, a party member – was critically injured, The Witness reported on Wednesday.
KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday that two people were killed and a woman was critically injured when their car was shot at in Msinga, south of Dundee. The victims were attacked by four people on their way back from a constituency meeting. “The vehicle was ambushed while en route to Keate’s Drift,” Colonel Jay Naicker said.
“We are appealing to anyone with information to please contact the police,” he said.The shooting happened around 17:00 on Tuesday. The injured woman was rushed to the hospital.
The police have launched an investigation and the motive for the killing is not yet known.
NFP is a breakaway party from Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) launched on 25 January 2011 by Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi, IFP former chairperson, along with other former IFP members.
