Harare- Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe today celebrated his 88th birthday and almost 33-years as president of what was once Africa’s “bread basket”. And he is still adamant that he will not be stepping-down anytime soon.
Mugabe celebrated his birthday with a cake decorated in Zimbabwe’s national colours and was joined by his wife, Grace, and officials from his office.
During an interview with government-owned Radio Zimbabwe he insisted that he is still fit and not unhealthy as reported. He said that he will continue ruling ZANU-PF and Zimbabwe until he felt like retiring.
“I came from the people and the people… – our members of the party – will certainly select someone once I say I am now retiring, but not yet,” Mugabe is reported to have said in the interview.
